On July 8, 2021, the Bavarian State Minister Thorsten Glauber inaugurated the flood protection area in Gunzenhausen. The Ansbach Water Management Office paid special attention to the preservation of the linden avenue that characterizes the townscape. In order to create space for the flood protection wall, the Opitz international team transplanted 19 linden trees by several meters using the OPTIMAL 3000 plus round spade machine.

A new daycare centre is being built in the Hasenbühl district of Roth, a town in central Franconia. The city landscaping department planted a lime tree on the future site of the daycare centre 20 years ago, and the once small tree has developed into a stately tree which has grown to a height of 12 metres over the years.

The responsible planners immediately recognised that the tree was worthy of preservation, and called in the team at Opitz international. It was then professionally and safely “parked” in the nearby Rother Stadtgarten municipal gardens and will be a future provider of shade for the children at the daycare centre.

As soon as the premises are finished, the tree will move back to its “new” former location and can once again provide shade for the children when they go out to play in the summer.

Moving trees in Koblenz: The planned construction of a new bridge meant that 45 trees (29 limes, 3 ornamental cherries, 11 Japanese pagoda trees and 2 tulip trees) had to be relocated on the site between Koblenz Castle and Pfaffendorf Bridge. The trees that were worthy of preservation were distributed to three new locations around the city by Team Opitz using the OPTIMAL 3000 and OPTIMAL 2500 tree spades.

The recreational area at the Gülser Moselbogen, the Herberichstraße and in the Lehrhohl will now be made more beautiful with new shade trees. Urban tree manager Stephan Dally says: “It is the most sustainable thing you can do. The trees are still in good condition, it would be crazy to cut them down.”

The beating heart of the works at the Ostbahnhof can still be felt today. History lives on and will continue to influence the neighbourhood. Historic structures serve as an exciting contrast to modern buildings, and old and new combine to form a unique quarter of the future.

The Werksviertel Munich combines living, housing and working in a unique way. A new district is being created on the traditional site at Ostbahnhof in the centre of the state capital which is characterised by vision and innovation, which blends in harmoniously with the existing infrastructure.

In March 2020, maples, gleditsias and poplars which were blocking the construction of a new road were transplanted to the Werksviertel with the Optimal 2500. A future park and playground were designated as the new location for the approx. 8-metre high trees by the planners of the architectural firm Jühling & Partner in Munich.

The housing shortage in cities has meant that urban densification, i.e. the use of vacant land within an existing development, is a highly topical issue. Opitz international is also helping to preserve trees in Erlangen and transplant them to another location within the area. Optimum use can therefore be made of the existing green spaces which are beneficial to the environment.

The motor park in Burghausen has gained five new shade trees. The five trees, including three maples, a lime tree and an ash tree, were transplanted by Team Opitz international from the site of a former plant nursery to the park. The trees are an ecologically valuable contribution and provide interesting structural accents to enhance the park.

More than 60 trees were moved to a safe heeling-in site by Opitz international specialists in November 2008 as part of the redesign project at the Inselbad prior to the start of the actual construction work to protect the trees from damage during the reconstruction phase. However, the redesign of the surroundings could be started earlier without having to consider the well-being of the valuable shade trees.

The pools, grandstands, technical building and changing rooms underwent a massive redesign over the following 12 months. The landscaping project started in November 2009. The first trees (including maple, lime and hornbeam) were moved to their new locations with the Optimal 2500 and maintained in accordance with professional standards.

In May 2010, the time had come: The new Inselbad the re-opened to the eager bathers of Eichstätt.

The Folkart Towers are 47-storey twin skyscrapers in the Turkish city of Izmir. With a construction height of 200 m above the ground, they were the tallest buildings in Izmir from 2014-2017. When completed in 2014, the Folkart Towers were the fifth highest twin towers in Europe.

Construction of the towers began in 2011 and was completed in 2014. Opitz international arrived on site in June 2014.

They are now the workplace or place of residence of 4,000 people. In February 2015, the largest art gallery in Turkey was opened in the Towers with an area of 800 m².

This project is part of a “BID”, or business improvement district.
All the real estate owners and traders in the adjacent buildings joined forces and together invested in the redesign and renovation of their neighbourhood. The Hamburg landscape architecture firm Breimann & Bruun was awarded the redesign project.

After clearing the building site, the area was renovated with a clear design concept.
The area was redesigned to enable pedestrians to walk around and experience the environment, and the traffic space was largely reduced. 13 tall, 9-10 metre high, 60-year-old thuja trees (Thuja plicata) have been placed around the square, which were transported to Hamburg from a tree nursery in Bad Zwischenahn by the Opitz international team with the tree spade machine. The thujas create an unusual, urban aesthetic in their new location, while radiating calm and elegance.

The atmosphere in the square is also impressive at night, when these striking trees literally take centre-stage when illuminated by spotlights on the ground.

The Business Campus near Munich is continuing to expand. The landscape designers used a stock of healthy trees that had to be moved from other places to enhance the green environment around the new office buildings. 37 beautiful plane trees were transplanted from a car park to their new location and now provide a tranquil and restful atmosphere in the new office quarter.
